This book, first published in 1978, is a compilation of work by Brittany-born photographer Guy Le Querrec, of places and subjects as varied as tourists in Saint-Tropez to the conditions of agricultural workers in Portugal around the time of the Revolution of the Carnations. These images carry a strong sense of simultaneous improvisation and geometry.

My photographs are primarily about contradictions; the simultaneous and infinite coexistence of beauty mingling with destruction, of love with hatred. The endless capacity for contradiction has defined humanity's existence, and is forced into stark relief in war.
