Book of the Week Coney Island by Bruce Gilden Sitting on the outskirts of the five boroughs, the world-famous pleasure beach of Coney Island has been the summer destination for New Yorkers since its heyday in the 1890s. Toward the end of the 1960s, one year after he first picked up a camera, Bruce Gilden took the subway through Brooklyn, N.Y., to capture sunbathers, weekenders, sideshow booths, and the Cyclone roller coaster. Gilden creates a humorous montage with his ability to capture and display people’s eccentricities. | Join the Fray © Marilyn Silverstone / Magnum Photos What do you think of these photos?
