The Mall of America opened on this day in 1992. Today we take a look at the fluorescent-lit universe of the shopping mall. MINNESOTA—The Mall of America cost $650 million to build; it covers 4.2 million square feet and has 50 restaurants, 14 cinema screens, and more than 520 shops, 1994.
