On June 6, 1944, “D-Day,” Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. Magnum founder Robert Capa accompanied the first wave of troops and documented this pivotal day in history. DORSET, WEYMOUTH, England—Onboard the U.S. Coast Guard transport ship Samuel Chase, at anchor off Weymouth. Planning the details of the D-Day landings, using a model of the section of the Normandy coast that had been codenamed Omaha Beach, June 1-5, 1944.
