Book of the Week: Afghanistan

Afghanistan is the result of a collaboration between photographer Chris Steele-Perkins and renowned Afghan poet Sayd Bahodine Majrouh. Visiting the war-ravaged country during a five-year period, Steele-Perkins captured images showing that everyday life continued despite the reality of war. Afghanistan’s independence day is celebrated on Aug. 19.
Elliot Landy was the official photographer of the now legendary Woodstock Music and Art Fair of 1969. It was held for three days from Aug. 15 to 17 on a farm in Bethel, N.Y. More than 400,000 fans attended the event to see performances by Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Joe Cocker, the Band, Bob Dylan, and others.
