Queen Elizabeth II
On this day in 1952, Britain’s Princess Elizabeth awoke in Kenya to the news of her father King George VI’s death. She succeeded him on the throne as Queen Elizabeth II. Her coronation ceremony took place the following year. This year she celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, her 60th year as queen. KENYA—Near Isiolo.
