The Cost of Living
by Martin Parr

This book, published in 1989, followed Martin Parr’s acclaimed color study of the working classes of Britain in The Last Resort. This time, Parr effectively turned the camera onto his “own” middle class, examining the effects of Thatcherism on their everyday and extracurricular activities.

The more I work, the more I realize that the viewer is the only actor in the creation of meaning in a picture. And I like that.
