A lot of my work yells. I want my pictures to do that — not all of them, but I want people to be moved by the lives of the people that they are looking at.
DALI, China — Locals fish on the calm waters of Er Hai, a freshwater lake where fish are bountiful, 1984. Because a strong wind frequently blows down from the surrounding mountains, Dali is called the "Windy Town." The lake's waters were exceptionally calm on the morning this photo was taken.
Photographing for over 50 years, Thomas Hoepker has seen a world of change through his lens, from the Cold War division of his native Germany to the fall of the Twin Towers on September 11th.
